How We Use AI in Recruiting
Last updated: 14-Jul-2026
At The Well, our job is to connect the right people with the right opportunities. To do that well, and consistently, we use technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), to help our recruiters find and evaluate candidates. We want to be clear about how that works.
People make the decisions
AI does not hire, reject, or screen out anyone at The Well. Our tools help our recruiters surface and prioritize candidates who may be a strong fit. AI does not make decisions on its own; our recruiters do. AI assists our people. It does not replace them.
How AI helps.
When a client firm describes a role, our system reviews candidates in our network and helps our recruiters identify those whose experience, skills, and working style may align well. The goal is consistent consideration, meaning every candidate is weighed against the same role criteria, so that strong matches are not missed. This includes people who might otherwise be overlooked because their background is not an obvious fit on paper.
What our AI looks at.
- Professional information you share with us, such as experience, skills, licenses, and role preferences.
- The content of conversations and interviews with us, in written transcript form.
- Working-style and values signals we draw from those conversations to gauge fit with a firm's environment.
What our AI does not do.
- It does not make final decisions or automatically reject anyone.
- It does not use facial recognition or voiceprints. We work from written transcripts, not biometric scans.
- It does not use protected characteristics, such as race, age, sex, religion, or disability, to evaluate or rank you.
Our commitment to fairness.
We regularly test our matching tools for bias and unequal impact, and we design them to expand, not narrow, the candidates our recruiters consider.
Your choices.
You may, at any time:
- Request human review of any AI-assisted match.
- Ask us not to use AI to evaluate you. If you do, our recruiters will still consider you, but we will not be able to match you on working-style and values fit, so you may receive fewer or less precise matches, and you may not surface for roles where you would be a strong cultural fit but not an obvious match on paper.
